About Jim
The Donelan family has lived in Springfield for six generations.
Jim Donelan has over 20 years of experience working with cities, counties, townships, school districts, and other local governments throughout the State of Illinois. Jim has worked hard for local governments improving the quality of life for residents and reducing the local tax burden. He has worked with both the Executive branch and the Springfield City Council.
Jim was elected to the Springfield City Council on April 7, 2015, for the term beginning May 7, 2015.
He is presently the Executive Director of a statewide local government association. Prior to this venture, Mr. Donelan served as Executive Assistant to Springfield Mayors Tim Davlin and Frank Edwards.
Jim graduated from Illinois State University with majors in Finance and Business Administration, and has completed graduate work at the University of Illinois-Springfield. He has participated in numerous organizations including serving as past president of Crime Stoppers of Sangamon & Menard Counties, the St. Agnes School Board, Sangamon County Citizens Efficiency Commission, St. Joseph's Home Board, and the Springfield Sports Hall of Fame Board. He presently serves on the Sacred-Heart Griffin High School Board, and Secretary of the Citizens Club of Springfield.
Jim is co-author of Illinois Statehouse, an Images of America book, and is co-founder of a website dedicated to our present capitol building, www.ilstatehouse.com. Jim is married, and has two children.
